EVENT: This Saturday, September 18th: The Doozer & Willie Lane at Brickbat!

This Saturday, September 18th, 8pm

at Brickbat Books:

The Doozer
Willie Lane

The Doozer
"Hailing from Cambridge, England, The Doozer bears an almost uncanny vocal resonance to past legend Syd Barrett, as well as a knack for cobbling together occasional found-tape narration with string-strum and hypnotic percussive plonk not unlike The Shadow Ring. The gin doesn't come much pinker than this." _Siltbreeze

"The Doozer makes angular bedroom psych-pop from guitar, keyboards and drum machines. He insists that he 'builds' music, and it's an apposite word. Sheet Music has a lovely constructed precision underlying its surface awkwardness, with a gift for finding chords or sour melodic twists that initially sound wrong, but turn out right. His counter-intuitive logic and oblique associations put him in a lineage connecting The Incredible String Band, Kevin Ayers and Billy Childish, but most of all another Cambridge alumnus, Syd Barrett. The Doozer has a voice of his own, though, and the quavers and quirks of songs like 'Dogwalking' and 'Burn the Tape' lodge themselves in the brain with strange persistence."
--Sam Davies, The Wire

Willie Lane
"...his playing ranges from Wizz Jones power-pluck at its cleanest to Michael Chapman electro-smear at its phasingest. But Willie knows his stuff cold and this instrumental slide through the gates of Neverland is one of this year’s great rides." -Arthur

FEATURED: Henry Rollins' End To End Volume II

A first edition copy of Henry Rollins' second book, with mandatory coffee cup rings on the cover as well other unidentifiable stains which seem to to be the inevitable result of the hardcore lifestyle. But unlike punk rock books, hardcore books don't seem to stink of cigarettes. Go figure.

Night Becomes Day by Richard McGuire
Paperback (out of print) $11.95

I first became aware of Richard McGuire in Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly's Raw Magazine during the 1980s. His comic strip "Here" was an obvious influence on the development of the young Chris Ware. During the 1990s he wrote and illustrated a series of children's books, all of them now out of print. He has gone on to successful career as an illustrator/graphic designer.
